Chinese New Year in Bangkok
For some reason i think the Thai People have a lot more fun with the New Year the day before. All day Wednesday, We, my group and I heard fireworks, mostly the 1000 firecracker long string type (how about that description), going off periodically throughout the day. One of these was 7ish right out side my dorm, and was really loud.
Anyways the point being Eric’s birthday is today, and we went out midnight expecting the celebration for the New Year and something we could celebrate with Eric. However when we arrived at Saigon Center, where they have had this huge display set up all week, there was nothing. Everything was shut down and the only people around were waiting for a bus or taxi drivers. What's up with this?
So after speed walking the whole way there in 15 mins, we turned around and jumped in a taxi to get back to our dorm street in 6 mins for the midnight, as all the shops there had their two candles out and looked like they had fireworks to set off when we left but when we got back 20 mins l8r it was dead. However, when we were standing around watching the couple people still on the street, a BoyGirl came up to us and explained to us a little about what was going on and told us to go to China Town were everything “was going on” and Temple's open all night.
So yep another taxi ride.
Well the temples might have been open but there was barley anything other then night vendors out and no parties or anything particularly exciting. Hopefully tonight is better for Chinese New Year.
